Officially Microsoft clearly says that AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (1st generation) CPU / Processor is not supported under Windows 11. You can check Microsoft Official CPU support list here -> https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-amd-processors
However, in reality, this CPU seems to be silently supported under latest builds of Windows 11.
Here is one of our Desktop Computer with following system configuration,
Item | Details |
CPU | AMD R5 1600 (1st Gen) |
MoBo | A320M-A PRO MAX |
GPU | Nvidia GTX 1650 |
RAM | 16 (8×2) GB DDR4 2666 |
Boot | WB SN 570 NVMe |
With earlier Windows 11 builds, like original retail release or 21H2, we needed to run a registry edit commands before installation to bypass the Windows 11 TPM check to proceed with the installation, however, surprisingly, under 23H2 build 22631_2861, Windows installation went without any issues and Windows is reporting active TPM 2.0 with full support.
There are two different AMD Ryzen 5 1600 models out there. One is the original 1600, 1st generation CPU and there is another, which is identical to the 2nd generation Ryzen 5 2600 but called 1600 AF. AS you can see, our CPU is the original 1st generation Ryzen 5 1600 built with 14nm whereas the 1600 AF is built on 12nm.
So, although there is no official news about it, but as it seems, Windows 11 has silently started to support a CPU which is not in the official support list.
