Google Maps Dark Mode – Save Battery / Reduce eye strain

Google Maps just got updated with a new & useful feature. Dark Mode for all is now available with the latest version of Google Maps.

What’s the big deal?

If you notice, slowly its becoming a trend with all apps and phones to have a dark mode. Usually darker colors means less bright screen and that directly helps our eyes as it strains less.

Battery Savings?

There are two types of display technology used in smart phones and tablets. IPS and OLED (AMOLED / SuperAMOLED / etc).

If you are using a phone with IPS, then there is very negligible benefit of battery savings with or without dark mode and themes.

However, if you are using a phone with OLED ((AMOLED / SuperAMOLED / etc) display panel, then there will be a good amount of battery saving for using Dark Mode and dark theme.

Should you use it?

Definitely you should be giving this mode a try. If you are comfortable with it, then start using it to reduce eye fatigue and save battery.

How to enable Google Maps Dark Mode?

Under Google Maps settings, you can find the option theme, and there enable the dark mode.
